IVFstrat was founded and is led by Dr. Alex C. Varghese, a globally respected clinical embryologist, scientific leader, and innovation strategist in assisted reproduction.
Dr. Varghese currently serves as Director – Research & Innovation at Fertility Associates (New Zealand) and previously held the role of Group Scientific Director, providing scientific leadership across a multi-country IVF network spanning New Zealand, Malaysia, Thailand. Over a career spanning more than three decades (Asia, North America, Pacific), he has worked at the intersection of clinical embryology, laboratory governance, research, and technology translation, supporting IVF clinics from start-up phase through to large, mature networks.
IVFstrat was created to extend this experience beyond a single organization — offering independent, evidence-based scientific consultancy to IVF clinics, laboratory networks, start-ups, and academic partners worldwide.
Leadership & Scientific Governance
Dr. Varghese has held senior leadership roles for over 20 years, including Scientific Director, Chief Embryologist, Group Scientific Director, and off-site Laboratory Director across multiple continents.
His leadership style is grounded in:

• Ethical responsibility (“responsible reproduction”)
• Alignment between laboratory performance, clinical outcomes, and patient safety
He has led harmonisation of laboratory practice, SOPs, and KPIs across geographically dispersed clinics, working closely with clinicians, operations, quality teams, and executive leadership.
Innovation & Translational Research
A defining feature of Dr. Varghese’s work is the translation of innovation into routine IVF practice.
He has led or coled the evaluation, validation, and clinical rollout of:
- AIbased embryo ranking and decision support tools
- Power BI–driven KPI dashboards and process control systems
- RFID based electronic witnessing across IVF networks
- Remote cryomonitoring systems (ATRAX WEIGHMED In house R&D)
- PiezoICSI and advanced micromanipulation technologies
- Automation for IVF lab workflows
His approach to innovation is pragmatic and datadriven — ensuring new technologies are
clinically safe, operationally viable, regulatorready, and outcomefocused.
Mergers, Expansion & Network Harmonisation
Dr. Varghese has extensive experience supporting network growth, acquisitions, and laboratory integration, particularly in rapidly expanding IVF groups.
His work includes:
• Scientific due diligence for new clinics
• Standardisation of protocols across merged units
• KPI alignment and benchmarking across sites
• Supporting leadership teams during transitions
• Designing shared-service and central governance models
This experience positions IVFstrat to support clinics not just technically, but strategically,during periods of growth or change.
Practice Standardisation & Continuous Improvement
A core strength of IVFstrat is the ability to align best practice across laboratories while respecting local context.
Dr. Varghese has demonstrated success in:

• Embedding quality systems, CAPA, and risk frameworks
• Using data to identify variation and drive improvement
• Improving efficiency, consistency, and outcomes across networks
This work is underpinned by deep familiarity with RTACaligned governance, audit processes, and regulatory expectations.
Education, Training & Workforce Development
Dr. Varghese is deeply committed to the education and professional development of embryologists and IVF scientists.
He has:
• Designed and led embryology and andrology training programs globally
• Established and supported practical training centres
• Served as faculty and adjunct faculty for MSc (clinical embryology) and fellowship
programs
• Supervised PhD, MSc, and medical student research projects
• Chaired scientific committees and international congresses
He is also the founder of Lifeinvitro Academy, a training and academic platform focused on structured, competency-based ART education.
